http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_Gqzkzi0g_s...4O4/s400/4.jpg Actually as for Volume 2, it already exist at the site but nevertheless I am uploading it again as separate avi's which are pretty handy to download.
Some descriptions from Volume 3:
Tale of Tales - Director: Yuri Norstein (1979)
Written by playwright Ludmila Petrushevskaya and based on his childhood memories. TALE OF TALES is Norstein's masterpiece and generally considered one of the greatest animated films ever made. It was the third collaboration among Norstein, his wife, the artist Francesca Yarbusova, and cameraman Alexander Zhukovsky. Zhukovsky photographed houses and even old cars in the Moscow neighborhood where Norstein grew up, and Yarbusova turned them into art. A difficult film from the onset, TALE OF TALES, made studio administrators and film ministry censors very nervous. The first script was rejected. The second was approved, but after four months of preparation production was halted for a year. Itr took Norstein thirteen months to complete the film, which was then rejected by state film censors who were terrified of possible hidden meanings. They rejected the original title - There will Come a Little Grey Wolf. Norstein, without much thought, suggested TALE OF TALES, a phrase from a Turkish poem by Nazim Hikmet. After considerable lobbying by Fyodor Khitruk and numerous foreign film critics, TALE OF TALES was finally approved for distribution in November 1979 when the team of Norstein, Zhukovsky and Yarbusova received teh prestigious "All State" Award for Hedgehog in the Fog and Heron and Crane.
Hunt - Director: Eduard Nazarov (1979)
Nazarov studied with Norstein at the Children's Art School, They both came to Soyuzmultfilm at the same time. Nazarov worked with Khitruk for twelve years. He served as an assistant on Man in a Frame and as art director with Vladimir Zuikov for Film Film Film and Island. Nazarov directed Hunt after killing one bird and one rabbit on a hunting expedition.
Last Hunt - Director - Alexander Karavayev (1982)
A hunting dog falls in love with a wounded bird. Karavayev studied art direction at Soyuzmultfilm together with Yuri Norstein and then became a student of director Ivan Ivanov-Vano, His animation is characterized by humor, lyricism, and satire.
There Once Was A Dog - Director: Eduard Nazarov (1981)
THERE ONCE WAS A DOG (1982) directed by Eduard Nazarov. All ten-minute films produced by Soyuzmultfilm had to be completed in four months, whether simple or complicated. It was impossible for Nazarov to finish HUNT, which required drawing each scene by hand, in accordance with the studio's rigid production schedule. And so despite the success of HUNT, it would be two years before Nazarov was allowed to direct THERE ONCE WAS A DOG. In this film Nazarov used a different, simpler technique, and it was completed "almost on time." A folk tale told by many cultures, Nazarov decided to set his version in the Ukraine where he had spent many enchanted summers and had come to appreciate the beauty of the people, the countryside and the music. The story is about an old guard dog who befriends the old wolf he once chased from the village. The wolf helps him to become appreciated again by the villagers, and te4h dog thanks him by inviting him to a wedding.

Director: Blutch; Charles Burns; Marie Caillou; Pierre Di Sciullo

Description: Different black-and-white animation techniques tell several scary stories. There's a story of a teenage boy who meets the wrong girl. Another tale deals with a small community where people disappear and are never seen again. Then there's the narrative of a little Japanese girl who suffers from horrible nightmares followed by a tale where a man doesn't get the rest he hoped for in an old not-so-abandoned house. These stories are connected by the story about a man with a devilish smile and four enormous dogs from hell and by a woman's monologue about her fears.

Some descriptions:
Story of One Crime - Director: Fyodor Khitruk (1962)
1962 marked the directorial debut of Fyodor Khitruk, the distinguished animator of some of the greatest animation ever produced in Russia. One of the first animated films made by Soyuzmultfilm for adults. Story of one Crime ushered in a new era of Russian animation by taking up social themes and expounding on them with distinctive eloquence. The Film tells the story of the "little man" and seems quite ordinary - But it is told with a mischievous sharp wit.
Man in the Frame - Director: Fyodor Khitruk (1966)
Many in the Russian animation industry are still amazed that Man in the Frame was ever produced, not to mention approved and widely distributed in the USSR. Khitruk had for several years wanted to make a film which openly critiqued bureaucrats instead of disguising them as bears or beavers in children's fairy tales. Innovative visuals were created with collage and dramatized by masterful use of music.

The Best of Zagreb Film - Volumes 1 to 5
The Best of Zagreb Film - Volumes 1 to 5 (DVD Rip, avi)
Collection of Animated Shorts
No dialogue
In four decades Zagreb Film produced 600 animated films that won more than 400 international awards. The studio quickly became world renowned for a unique animation style that became known as "the Zagreb school."
One of the studio's pioneering distinction was its filmmakers' propensity toward writing, designing, and directing their own films. The result was the creation of bold cartoons unified in design, tone, and message. Within the five volume series can be found the best work from this legendary animation studio.
Volume 1: The Classic Collection
http://i39.tinypic.com/bdwgw8.jpg
Beginning with Ersatz, the first film from outside the United States to win an Academy Award for best animated film, these seven cartoons are representative of the most unique offerings from the legendary Zagreb Film studio.
Ersatz (Surogat) (9:20): This Oscar-winner by Dusan Vukotic tells the story of a tourist on a beach who inflates an entire village. A passionate love develops, provoking jealousy, vengeance, and finally tragedy. In the end, a small nail reminds everyone of the artificiality of the world that has been created.
Diary (Dnevnik) (8:09): Memories of both the wonder and alienation of life reverberates in this animated diary by Nedeljko Dragic, one of Zagreb Film's most acclaimed artists.
Mask of the Red Death (Maska Crvene Smrti) (9:18): Based on the Edgar Allan Poe story. A plague devastates the world, but inside the castle Count Prospero and his decadent court continue their orgies. The plague then takes a mysterious form to do its evil work.
Butterflies (Leptiri) (9:13): In this typically wild ride by Kresimir Zimonic a lonesome girl at the seashore unexpectedly learns something about herself.
Last Waltz in the Old Mill (Posljednji Valcer U Starom Mlinu) (6:12): A relatively new (1995) film, it was written by Oscar-winner Dusan Vukotic. In live action, an old man feeds a flower mill. Two seeds are then transformed into animated lovers who dance their last waltz.
Fisheye (Riblje Oko) (8:45): Josko Marusic represents the new breed of animators in Zagreb today, with ties to the old school. In this metaphor of how the normal order of things sometimes goes awry, one night the fish take over.
Mass in A Minor (Misa U A-Molu) (3:41): This 1996 film by Goce Vaskov uses music and imagery to portray the extraordinary beauty of the forces of nature. It also launched the Zagreb school into the world of computer animation.

William Kentridge, born in Johannesburg in 1955, is one of South Africa's most world renowned artists and animators. His father, Sydney Kentridge, was one of the defence team for Nelson Mandela at the notorious Rivonia Trial which resulted in Mandela’s 25 year imprisonment. As a result he grew up very aware of South African politics. After completing a degree in Politics and African Studies, he studied Fine Art and then Mime and Theatre at the L'École Internationale de Théâtre Jacques Lecoq in Paris. Between 1975 and 1991, he was acting and directing in Johannesburg's Junction Avenue Theatre Company. In the 1980s, he worked on television films and series as art director.
In 1989, Kentridge created his first animated work, Johannesburg, 2nd Greatest City After Paris, in the series Drawings for Projection. He first used here his charcoal animation technique that would become a feature of his work. What interests Kentridge is time; its passing, the traces it leaves, the memory that events, beings and objects leave when we close our eyes on our past. In order to do this, Kentridge gradually refined a personal and unique animation technique. Each of his short films is based on a series of some 20 to 40 charcoal drawings, one drawing per scene, mostly in large sizes with some colour enhancements in pastels. In a desire for a chromatic simplicity with symbolic values, only colors, such as blue to represent water, and red, are used, glaring against the subtlety of gray.
Each of these drawings is like a storyboard sketch, often filmed with no camera moves. Kentridge modifies his composition little by little between each frame shot by erasing certain parts and re-drawing them (similar to the oil paint on glass technique used by Alexander Petrov). The charcoal technique, ephemeral and volatile, lends itself to this treatment; particularly in that faint traces remain of the imagery that has been erased. The result on screen gives a rather fragile image, all in nuances, quite in the manner of a man obsessed by the idea of traces, of reminiscences. In this way, Kentridge's videos and films came to keep the traces of the previous drawings. His animations deal with political and social issues from a personal and at times autobiographical point of view, since the author includes his self-portrait in some of his works.
The political content and unique techniques of Kentridge's work have propelled him into the realm of South Africa's top artists. Working with what is in essence a very restrictive media, using only charcoal and a touch of blue or red pastel, he has created animations of astounding depth. A theme running through all of his work is his peculiar way of representing his birthplace. While he does not portray it as the militant or oppressive place that it was for black people, he does not emphasize the picturesque state of living that white people enjoyed during apartheid either; he presents instead a city in which the duality of man is exposed. In a series of nine short films, he introduces two characters, namely Soho Eckstein and Felix Teitlebaum. These characters depict an emotional and political struggle that ultimately reflects the lives of many South Africans in the pre-democracy era.
In an introductory note to Felix In Exile, Kentridge writes, "In the same way that there is a human act of dismembering the past there is a natural process in the terrain through erosion, growth, dilapidation that also seeks to blot out events. In South Africa this process has other dimensions. The very term 'new South Africa' has within it the idea of a painting over the old, the natural process of dismembering, the naturalization of things new."
Films included in this compilation are:
1. Johannesburg, Second Greatest City After Paris (1989)
2. Monument (1990)
3. Mine (1991)
4. Sobriety, Obesity And Growing Old (1991)
5. Felix In Exile (1994)
6. History Of The Main Complaint (1996)
7. Weighting And Wanting (1998)
8. Stereoscope (1999)

Pied Piper of Hamelin (Krysar) (1985)

IMDB Rating: 8.2/10
Director: Jirí Barta
Cast:
Oldrich Kaiser ... (voice)
Jirí Lábus ... (voice)
Michal Pavlícek ... (voice)
Vilém Cok ... (voice)
Description:
Krysar, also known as "The Rat Catcher", is a truly beautiful bit of obscure animation, executed by Czech animator Jiri Barta (not to be confused with the late Jiri Trnka).
The most amazing aspect of Krysar, other than its sheer oddity, is the unfathomable amount of labor that went into its production. If you manage to find a copy of this film with "the making of" included, you'll be astonished as characters evolve from sketches into finalized wax sculpts, which are later perfectly replicated in wood by a master carver.
While the storytelling itself is linear, the characters faux language makes Krysar an interesting ride. People often liken the visuals with cubism, which does a somewhat accurate job of summing up the animations crooked 3D format. Every shot is a very well planned collage of 3D puppets and skewed sets.
If you enjoy stop motion, and animation in general, this is a very colorful, disturbing, and worthwhile piece of puppet animation. While not entirely suitable for children, I wouldn't hesitate in showing this to teens.
After years of being unable to purchase Barta's work within the US, a wonderful compilation of his work has finally been released onto a region 1 DVD. The disc is entitled "The Labyrinth of Darkness", which I find rather humorous. A compilation of Barta's work was released years earlier in Japan, with almost the same title "Labyrinth of Darkness and Light". I guess America's Grimm loving population is too cool for the light.

The Little Prince (1979)
http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w...savljev/pr.jpg
Director: Will Vinton
Duration: 25min
This claymation adaptation of Antoine de Saint-Exupery's classic tale of The Little Prince is both stunning to watch and emotionally memorable. The narration by Cliff Robertson helps keep the story going, and since most of his dialouge is straight from the book, it provides the insights and intricacies of the human heart that can never be perfectly transferred to the screen.
The way that this adaptation makes use of color and sound could only be from the 70s, and while this is clearly a children's short film, adults can enjoy it too.
For those who like the book, this is a great transfer to screen, entirely unpretentious and childlike in it's presentation, in the same way the book is.

In the year 2029, the barriers of our world have been broken down by the net and by cybernetics, but this brings new vulnerability to humans in the form of brain-hacking. When a highly-wanted hacker known as 'The Puppetmaster' begins involving them in politics, Section 9, a group of cybernetically enhanced cops, are called in to investigate and stop the Puppetmaster. The pursuit will call into question what makes a human and what is the Puppetmaster in a world where the distinction between human and machine is increasingly blurry.

Cameraman's Revenge
Mr. Grasshopper, a jilted cameraman, takes his revenge by filming Mr. Beetle and his mistress Ms. Dragonfly and then shows the results at a local cinema where Mrs. Beetle is in the audience. This was one of Starewicz's first animated films, and stars very realistic animated beetles.
Les Grenouilles qui demandent un roi
The frogs have a democracy, but they beseech Jupiter to send them a king. Jupiter can hardly believe this amphibian foolishness, so he sends them a tree as king. The frogs make obeisance to their new monarch, but they are dissatisfied and petition Jupiter again. Now he sends a proper king with a crown, a stork. Frog ladies and gents turn out to see the new sovereign and bring tribute. The stork starts to eat the frogs. They beg Jupiter for help. Jupiter hurls down lightning bolts, while the king continues to eat his subjects. "Moral: Let well enough alone."
